Every person who comes through the doors of Skyline Funerals receives the same attentive service. First and foremost, we listen to you, provide suggestions if you need them, and offer heartfelt compassion. No other funeral home in our area knows you like we do. We’ve been in this area for a long time, and deeply value our connection to those who live here.

There are few events in a person’s life that rise to importance of the Funeral. Most people recognize four major events in each person’s life – Birth, Marriage, having a child and Death. These events are often marked with formal ceremonies to mark the occasion. These events bring about major changes in the courses of peoples’ lives.

In the case of the funeral, the ceremony serves many purposes. It allows the family of the deceased to formally and publically express their grief at the loss. This is critical for a healthy beginning to the grieving process.

It also allows for a formal period for friends and relatives to gather and share in the loss and grief and to talk. This gives the family much needed emotional support during a very trying time and also allows friends a venue to express their own grief and help by lending support to the grieving family.

Planning and participating in the funeral service begins a long healing process of moving through the grief and into another “beginning” in life that will be without the loved one who has passed away. From a psychological standpoint, participation in the funeral service, and especially viewing of the deceased is the best way to move forward through the grief period. The “wake” or visitation provides a means for the family and friends to come to grips with the loss by visually confronting the loss of the loved one. From the psychological standpoint, this allows a person to subconsciously “flip a switch” that allows the grief process to begin. There have been many cases where families who have not done a visitation return to the funeral home in the future with regret that the visitation wasn’t held. Their reason in most cases is that they have had recurring instances of “seeing” the decedent. They have feelings that their loved one is still out there somewhere. This reaction does not occur when a person has viewed the body.

The very rituals and pageantry of the formal funeral serves as a public way to say goodbye in a healthy and supportive manner. The days surrounding the services provide a “safe” time for the family and friends to grieve their loss.

Every death closes some doors in the lives of others, and it also opens new doors. In confronting a death, every person involved has their life changed in some way. A very important person will no longer be participating in their life and the void will need to heal over time.

We know that decision-making during the hours following the loss of a loved one is difficult. We offer the extensive information below because we know that many are not fully aware of the services available today. We hope it helps make your funeral planning just that much easier.

Perhaps a “Life Tribute” Service will fit your funeral service requirements more than a traditional church service.

In the past 10 years an increasing cultural shift away from the traditional “Cookie Cutter” funeral and burial has overtaken the United States. Families are moving away from the old traditions of church services heavy with hymns and scripture followed by the funeral cortege to the cemetery. Families are moving toward services which celebrate the life and memories of the loved one who has passed from us.

We increasingly hear the statement from families, “We don’t go to church. Can you find us a minister? An increasing number of people tell us they have a “spiritual” connection with God, but do not support an organized religion. And, there are those families who have beliefs outside those of organized religion.

For these families, we are happy to offer Certified Celebrant services. The goal of our Certified Celebrant is to design a highly personalized tribute service for the deceased while still meeting the needs of the family to openly and safely grieve the loss of their loved one. The celebrant strives to create an atmosphere of safety, comfort and support through a meaningful ceremony including music, photos, memories and participation to assist the family in expressing their grief in a meaningful and healing manner.

Tim Tucker is the Certified Celebrant for Skyline Funeral Home. He is the managing funeral director and has 28 years of funeral service experience. He was certified as a Funeral Celebrant after attending a course of study with the In-Sight Institute sponsored by the ICCFA University (International Cremation, Cemetery & Funeral Home Association) in July 2009. He would be honored to help your family design a personalized funeral service, whether as a Tribute Service or in combination with a religious service. Please ask your funeral director to arrange a visit with Mr. Tucker if you would like to explore this type of service.

Funerals are an important step in the grieving process, as well as an opportunity to honor a life lived. They offer surviving family members and friends a caring, supportive environment in which to share thoughts and feelings about the death. Often funerals are the first step in the healing process.

Cremation refers to the way in which you choose to handle the physical remains of you or your loved one. Whether you choose burial, or cremation, you can still have a traditional funeral, or a simple memorial service, with or without the cremated remains.

You can also select direct cremation, which includes local transfer of the deceased to funeral home, required authorizations, services of a funeral director and staff, transportation of the deceased by livery to local crematory, an alternative container for cremation and the return of the cremains to the funeral home.

If you want to arrange a direct cremation, you can use an alternative container. Alternative containers encase the body and can be made of materials like fiberboard or composition materials.

"Honoring Those Who Served"

We are deeply dedicated to serve the Veterans in our community. Our staff realizes the importance of military service – and the necessity to honor the personal commitment of Veterans.

All Veterans’ families will be relieved of the burden of completing and filing all the necessary paperwork to receive Veteran’s benefits. Our staff will obtain the flag to drape the casket, the grave marker, and arrange military honors at burial in the cemetery of your choice; including burial at the local national cemetery should that be the desire of the family. We will also assist you in processing the paperwork for the military burial at sea option.
